Honor 5X Receives An Unofficial MIUI 8 Port

MIUI is Xiaomi's custom flavor of Android, and while it may not be everyone's cup of tea, it certainly has a lot of fans on our forums. So much so that we see MIUI being ported to more and more devices each week, and this time the Honor 5X is the latest in the line to taste MIUI.

Thanks to OneTeam, MIUI is now available for the Honor 5X. The ROM is based on Lineage OS and is compiled from MIUI PatchROM resources. It is currently based on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, which is what the latest stable version of MIUI is also based on. Fortunately, the ROM is already on the June security update, and future security patches are promised to come in the future. You can find more details in the linked thread below.

“Custom Quick Settings” Update Adds App Shortcuts & Improved Lollipop Support

With Android Lollipop, Google introduced Quick Setting tiles to allow you to quickly (and easily) toggle certain features on your device. Starting with the release of Android 7.0 Nougat, Google introduced the Quick Settings Tiles API to allow users to add their own tiles to the Quick Settings panel.

One such application that takes advantage of this API is called "Custom Quick Settings." Custom Quick Settings is a powerful application that lets you create and add many of custom tiles. Using the app, you can have Quick Settings tiles to directly launch applications, show the weather, launch a website, show some widgets and more. Furthermore, each tile can have their own custom icon and you can even use Tasker or shell commands to create even more advanced tiles.

It's been a while since the application saw its last update. But it appears it was well worth the wait as the most recent update to the app has brought quite a few exciting features.

With the new update, the app now no longer requires root access on devices running Android 5.x  — however, for some features, you may need to run some ADB commands from a PC. Other notable features include the ability to create app shortcut tiles, improved support for app widgets, new live toggles, and the ability to add/re-arrange/delete tiles on Android 5.x. The new update also adds support for Android O's adaptive icon feature.

The update is now rolling out in the Google Play Store, but given that it's a staged roll-out, it might take some time before it goes live for everyone.

LineageOS Changelog #12 Brings Updates to Jelly, Quick Tiles and More

Every two weeks, the LineageOS team releases a biweekly changelog to highlight the most significant changes made over that time period. The team has just released 12th changelog and they've introduced some interesting additions.

The most important project in the last few weeks is Jelly. The recent, small browser is slowly getting new functionality. Jelly is now scanning for new files when a download is completed, and a notification is shown. Incognito mode now opens new tabs as incognito tabs, and Jelly can also open links in external apps, like YouTube. Form data like usernames (not passwords) is now saved by default, you can enable a "Do not track" option, search suggestions have become available, and there's also support for Safe Browsing.

In the other news, the sensitive numbers list has been expanded to include Greece, Taiwan, and Ukraine, while country detection for the Czech Republic has been fixed and Brazil, France, Portugal and the UK have new numbers included.

Media codecs have been updated. The Battery Saver QS tile has been removed, as this functionality is already available in the main Battery QS tile. Additionally, custom tiles have now been integrated into the framework to allow for deeper integration with the system, and mimic behavior from older versions as the team plans to port new tiles soon.

As for build roster changes, some devices are now added to the list. Unfortunately, the team decided to suspend the support for LG L90 and Moto G4. Below is the full list of changes.

We expect more news to come from the spiritual successor of the CyanogenMod soon. You can download the newest builds from the official website, which now shows sha256 and sha1 checksums instead of md5. Weather providers are now available on the extras page.

Install iOS 11’s App Open/Close Animations on Your Android Device

The iOS 11 update to Apple devices brings a slightly updated Open and Close animation when launching apps and exiting out of them. If you like that animation and want to see it on your device, you can check out XDA Member mizdrake7's work.

To install them, all you need to do is flash the accompanying zip file through a custom recovery. The installer will automatically create a backup of your stock animation in your internal storage, so you have the option to roll back if you do not like this animation. The installer and the animation is said to work on all Android 5.0+ devices and has been tested on a wide variety of devices.

Easy Lock Brings Double Tap To Sleep To Any Device (No Root)

The popular double-tap-to-sleep feature has been a staple of custom ROMs for a while. Unfortunately, users of locked devices can't make use of the feature if their device lacks such functionality in its stock ROM.

XDA Senior Member aravindsagar created an Easy Lock app, to replicate the function so that it can be utilized on unrooted devices. The app runs on every device with Android 4.0+ and offers a host of configuration options. To use the application, you need to grant it special permissions. Flyme 6 For the OnePlus 3/3T Lets you Experience Meizu’s New UX

Meizu's Flyme UX skin is known for its unique take on Android. The skin can draw comparisons with Xiaomi's MIUI and Huawei's EMUI, but it still has its own distinct features and its own characteristics.

You can now experience Meizu's Flyme ROM on your OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T, thanks to XDA Member XiaoshaXs. This Flyme ROM for the OnePlus 3/3T utilizes HydrogenOS 2.5 (Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow) as its base, so it supports all custom kernels that work with that version of HydrogenOS.
