I'm using stock marshmellow from lg. google play music pauses the song when the screen turns off. usually between 30 seconds and 2 minutes after the screen turns off. I'm not exactly sure if it pauses the song or the audio just cuts off. I think it pauses. and it usually starts playing again about 10-20 seconds later, but if I wake the device it will start playing immediately. I've added google play music to ignore battery optimizations and that didn't help. I've also reformatted the sd card on my pc and on the g3.
another issue I'm having is after I reboot the phone, play music doesn't detect my songs. the sd card is mounted and I can see the files but there is no music in play music. sometimes remounting the sd card doesn't fix it and I have to reboot. also, after rebooting the playlist I created for the g3 gets deleted. the playlist is still there but the songs in it are removed.
nothing but issues with this phone, my headphone jack also launches google voice command. I didn't have any issues with my g2. I guess this is the last lg phone I'll buy.
